West of Sicily

Characteristic
Terroir
The territory extends southwest of Palermo, encompassing not only Monreale but also neighboring municipalities such as Camporeale and San Giuseppe Jato. It is a landscape characterized by:
Varied topography: It ranges from fertile plains to hills reaching 700-800 meters above sea level.
Soils: Predominantly clay and limestone, capable of retaining moisture during summer droughts and giving the wines a solid structure and pronounced minerality.

Clime
Despite its latitude, Monreale’s climate isn’t all sunshine and heat. Altitude plays a key role:
Temperature ranges: Cool nights allow the grapes to preserve their acidity and develop complex aromatic profiles.
Ventilation: The area is constantly windy, reducing humidity and protecting the grapes from fungal diseases, making it ideal for organic farming.
Grapes
We have different indigenous grapes.
Whites
Catarratto: The undisputed king. Here, it is showcased in its most elegant and savory versions, often with notes of citrus and white flowers.
Inzolia and Grillo: They complete the picture with structure and freshness.
Reds
Perricone (Pignatello): This is the area’s historic grape variety. Once almost forgotten, it is now experiencing a renaissance. It produces wines with dense tannins and notes of morello cherry and licorice.
Nero d’Avola: A must-have, here it expresses a fruity maturity balanced by the freshness of the hills.
Syrah: Despite being an international grape, Syrah has found a second home in Monreale, becoming almost an “adopted native” due to the exceptional quality it achieves on these soils.
