Terroir
The terroir is characterized by volcanic, sandy, and mineral-rich soils, which significantly influence the minerality and flavor of the wines. The altitude ensures ideal temperature variations for developing intense aromas and a pleasant freshness typical of both the reds and whites of the area.
Clime
The climate of Etna’s vineyards is unique, characterized by a strong volcanic microclimate with significant temperature variations between day and night (up to 30°C), abundant sunshine, and significant rainfall variability depending on the slope and altitude. Cooler temperatures and more frequent rainfall than in the rest of Sicily favor a slower and more complete ripening of the grapes, ensuring high acidity and complex aromas.
Grapes
Etna’s most famous grapes, both red and white, are Nerello Mascalese (for reds) and Carricante (for whites), often joined by Nerello Cappuccio and Catarratto, respectively. These native varieties, grown on volcanic soils and in a climate with marked temperature variations, give Etna wines a unique flavor, freshness, and elegance, with distinctive aromas of red fruit, citrus and mineral notes.
